My name is Colin Blayney. I am a Personal Trainer living and working in Toronto, Canada. The Older Adult Fitness Report is my opportunity to share much of the information I find through research with a wider audience than a one-on-one training setting.
I have been a PT for ten years, and for the last two, I have specialized in Older Adult Fitness. My goal for this blog is to present the most pertinent information available on a particular subject once a month (at least).
From a Canadian perspective, population projections show that there will be an increase in the older adult population, potentially creating a strain on our health care resources. In 2002, approximately 29% of Canada’s population was over the age of 50. By 2026, approximately 41% of our population will be over 50 years old!
From a physical activity and fitness point of view, the influence of a healthy lifestyle on this growing population is essential. By providing programs for older Canadians to age actively, we can reduce any potential strain on our health care system, and enjoy a better quality of life.
For those of you unfamiliar with the blog format, it is the easiest way to share information back and forth on the internet. If you care to respond to any article, or anyone else’s comments, you can do so by clicking on “Leave A Reply”.

Can you provide an age-indexed activity profile for several activities by percentile?
e.g.Stand Up Sit Down -# times per minute
95% 90% etc
90 39 36 34
85 42 40 etc.
75
etc.
